If there were a word to describe the television news market in India it could be nothing but exponential. With thousands of newspapers, hundreds of television channels and a plethora of radio stations having boomed in the last decade. The media space has increases over the years and thus the news market.The growth has been dynamic both in terms of the quality and quantity in all the media sectors. The first TV broadcast in India was in September 1959 in Delhi.It was an experimental telecast with a small transmitter and a makeshift studio. Programs were telecast twice a week just for an hour a day .The regular daily transmission started in 1965 as a part of All India Radio.In India,the broadcast of free-to-air television is governed through state-owned Prasar Baharti Corporation,with the Doordarshan group of channels being the only broadcater.As such,cable television is the primary source of TV programming in India. Doordarshan channel being the only broadcaster and then the emergence of private channels started since 1995 were channels like Star news, NDTV 24*7 and other channels come to existence.Star news was the first-ever independent satellite news channel to hit the small screen.Hence was started the Television News Industry in India and like any other industry, there’s competition in this industry too. Were the Monopoly types of market changes to Oligopoly now there were more than one news channels. The viewer today does not have to wait for ‘that half hour of news’ sandwiched between the soaps of an entertainment channel. Instead, they could just switch to an NDTV 24x7 or a Star News for some fresh, up-to-date news about the happenings around the world. Slowly regional news channels came to existence like Telugu news channels, Assamese, Kannada, English, Bengali, Marathi, Malayalam, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, etc.




  The number of news channels is growing by the day and so is the  audience. Television in India is a huge industry which has thousands of programmes in many languages. More than half of all Indian households own a television. As the television news market in India has increase with the rise of media industry and technology. As of now, the country has a collection of free and subscription services over a variety of distribution media, through which there are over 823 channels of which 184 are pay channels. The Indian Television market size is around crores . The total viewership in Indian TV market is 112 million, In the market still lies with Print Media, TV holds second largest share in the advertising media market. Thus the growth in Television and Media Industry increases over the years because of Technological Advancements, FDI Policies and Government support to the segment, Entry of large corporate players in all segments of the industry, FDI Policies and Government support to the segment, Increasing Revenue of the Hindi News Segment, Increase in disposable income amongst Indian consumers and several other factors. Information media is considered to be most powerful media & so is the News Channel. The number of news channels(on air) has gone up ,in last few years.






Nowadays everything has become easy and is available with just one click of button . The television News market in India is increasing and creating a powerful impact on people. Television news market has become vast and competition has increased today, people can watch the news channels they want to at any time and at any place as they are number of apps of television channels too,it has changed the entire television market nowadays and earlier during the days of the single channel Doordarshan monopoly, DART (Doordarshan Audience Research Team) was the only metric available. This used the notebook method of recordkeeping across 33 cities across India. DART continues to provide this information independent of the Private agencies. DART till this date is the only rating system that still measures audience metrics in Rural India. Nowadays there is tool to measure the popularity of a particular channel like the TRP (Television Rating Point) where we can judge the programmes that are viewed the most by people. As of now there are many or can say plenty of news channels to watch like Times Now, India Today, ABP Majha ,IBN Lokmat,TV9 Maharashtra and many others and people have many options too and “Aaj Tak” is amongst the top most watched news channel in India. Thus, the Television news market has increased and is increasing faster and faster day by day. Not only news channels but other television channels are too entertaining the people and  attracting them ,as now due to advance technology like smart phones , laptops and computers and the most running internet ,social media people are now more aware of the news channels and more advance now they can chose to watch which ever channel they want to. The Television news has taken a different place in Indian market overall and now it has become a business game.
