“Kaccha Limbu” is the film based on a novel “Runanubandh” written by legendary Marathi writer Shri. Jaywant Dalvi directed by debutant director and Marathi actor Prasad Oak’s, produced by Mandar Devasthali under the banner Swarup Recreation & Media Pvt Ltd, Teamwork Altra Creations and features Sonali Kulkarni, Ravi Jadhav and Manmeet Pem in lead role.
The film is of '80s which is set in Mumbai,The film begins with Mohan Katdare (Ravi Jadhav) works perpetual night shifts at the telegraph office & Sheila Katdare (Sonali Kulkarni) works for a private firm and are parents of a special child ‘Bachhu’ ( Manmeet Pem) They both work in opposite day & night shifts In Shaila’s words, they are like the sun and the moon- when one rises, the other sets and they hardly have any time for each other . In this cycle, the colour in the couple’s life is lost (this being beautifully conveyed by the black and white tone of the film) and the two forget enjoying .One day Sheila’s boss Mr. Pandit (Sachin Khedekar) comes to know about Sheila family and he is worried about Sheila when he comes to know about her special child and tries to help her in all possible way and tries to bring colour back in the couple’s life,he even suggest Sheila to spend time with her husband and he could take responsibility of her son. Mohan has his office-mate Venkat (Anant Mahadevan) to share his feelings with ,who has a soft corner for Bacchu .He is now 16 years old and his growing age and sexuality are a cause of concern for this couple. Brilliantly shot in black & white (by Amalendu Choudhary), the colour tone perfectly suits the grey shades of the film's storyline. It also underlines the darker realities of the characters. The selective use of colour represents their forgotten hopes and dreams.
The film revolves around a mentally challenged boy ‘Bachhu’ and the situation after he turns adult and how Mohan Katdare and Sheila Katdare deal with this situation and trying to spend quality time with each other they need their own personal space and tries to satisfy their sons wants , needs and desire too. There was a point when they both tried to commit a huge mistake but did not and finally decide to come up with a solution to their problems and lead a happy life .The sole purpose of their hard life is to set up a trust fund for their only son. The motive of the film is to bring the change in societal attitudes towards mental disabilities. The film has a different ending than the novel/play & is brilliantly justified.
Sonali Kulkarni has played a great peaceful role without been loud and the debutant actor Ravi Jadhav has too performed very well Manmeet especially is outstanding & so is Sachin Khedekar with his minimalist perfection Anant Mahadevan, another interesting casting decision has performed well.
The cinematographer of the film deserves equal credit outstanding cinematography by Amalendu Chaudhary & so does Rahul Ranade who has done the background score for the film ,The Lyricst of the film is written by Sanjay khare ,Music by Rahul Ranade, Screenplay and Dialogues by Chinmay Mandlekar.Overall the film is a wonderful watch for the audience.
