COSTUME DESIGNING -PLAYS AN IMPORTANT PART

CHANGE IN THE LOOKS OF MARATHI ACTRESS

We usually appreciate appropriate costumes worn by our Marathi artistes in different films .In the recent past, we have noticed a drastic change in the looks of Marathi artistes Their clothes are of latest styles and designs. You can easily make out this difference in just last 10 years. Thanks to the different costume designers engaged by the film makers, to add some more value to their film. The face of Marathi cinema is changing for sure. Now, the Marathi lead actors are very much cautious about their looks, which is very much important. So, they pay more attention on their fitness too! Costume plays a very important role in presenting a particular character. It is very much important to make the artist presentable, with the right looks. Earlier artist had to carry their own clothes, so that the director could decide, what clothes could be worn for that particular shot.

Proper costume always helps to build a particular character. Even if you are fully prepared for a scene but, until you wear a proper dress according to that situation, you will not build the confidence from inside. Today, Marathi industry is growing with different subjects. Therefore, for each different subject a character needs different look. And, it is the costume, which gives that different look. When a promo of a particular film goes on the air, it should show the lead pair in good attractive or relevant costumes, so that the viewers form an opinion about them.
Today, in Marathi films, meetings have been conducted with director and costume designer together, so that they can decide suitable costume for that character. To work on ‘costumes & looks’ is extremely important in today's world. Every person is so particular about looking good and being well dressed. So obviously, in movies they definitely expect to see their favourite stars to inspire them, by looking good and become their style icons. I believe, it is very very important to concentrate on styling as the characters of the particular movie is way to different from other so their customs also do differ .
Today Marathi Industry is changing all over in all shorts of matter whether its customs or acting or story's, movies, direction, cinematography ,songs ,music etc. The image as changed all over and is creating a impact on the audiences and each artist has becoming a different style icon for people through their acting skill and fashion they carry out .The boldness and exposure has increased nowadays in Marathi film industry too.

People are communicating almost all day every day through texting, e-mail, and the ever-expanding social media. Because it has had such a modern explosion in popularity and usage, social media has become the new norm when it comes to communicating everything from huge life events like engagements and the birth of children to minute particulars like what one ate for dinner. Social media has had one of the most substantial impacts on how people communicate within the past decade. The internet has a greater impact on people today than ever before. It has been a continual source of news, entertainment, and education for users around the world for more than 20 years. However, the most innovative of its technologies, social media, did not achieve mainstream popularity until about ten years ago. Facebook, Twitter, similar services are becoming the most visited destinations on the internet. These websites allow users to quickly and easily share pictures, links, ideas, and messages with other users, theoretically facilitating social interaction. These services, through a combination of accessibility, simplicity, and intuitive design promote positive social behavior by encouraging interaction among friends, relatives, and co-workers; facilitating communication between individuals, and fostering a profound sense of community. The effects of social networking are twofold. Young people also run the risk of inadvertently disclosing their personal information since on most occasions, they usually neglect to read carefully websites’ privacy policies. Whenever young people fail to read the policies and disclaimers, they are exposed to risks of having their personal information disclosed. This is especially a serious matter in light to the rising cases of cyber crimes such as identity theft. New studies reveal that social networks have the ability to sway people to spend money by running advertisements on the user’s page. Such forms of near-subliminal advertising can subconsciously cause an individual to buy certain merchandise.
It is becoming increasingly clear that social networks have become part of people’s lives. Many young people are using their tablet computers and smart phones to check Tweets and status updates from their friends and family. As technology advances, people are pressured to adopt different lifestyles. Social networking sites can assist young people to become more socially capable. However, they may also make them clumsy and incompetent, as well. Therefore, it is imperative to exercise caution and restraint when dealing with such issues.

MARATHI CINEMA

MARATHI CINEMA GROWING DAY BY DAY

In past few years, the Marathi cinema industry has produced many films that are not only critically acclaimed but commercially successful as well. It has brought fresh ideas, untouched subjects and deeper human sensitivity on the celluloid. The kind of Marathi cinema that is being made today is very fresh and different. Thanks to directors and writers getting exposed to world cinema via television, film festivals etc. They are coming up with new story lines and innovative concepts .There is a lot of content and variety in Marathi films. A lot of bold subjects have been handled well.Outstanding  contribution and efforts from different producers and directors of Mumbai Film Industry, Marathi cinema relatively out shine other Indian Film Industries such as Bollywood in the first quarter of 2010 in terms of box office collections and critical appreciation. The Marathi film industry grow in terms of the return on investments as well as critical appreciation of multiple films. While the regional film industry has been flourishing, it is interesting to see how big production houses, which have been investing in Bollywood films, seem to have taken an interest in Marathi films too.Marathi Cinema received critical acclaim in the year 2004 with the film Shwaas bagging the Golden Lotus National Award. It was also India's official entry to the 77th Academy Awards and it also won the President's medal for best film, beating Bollywood's prolific output with quality. Shwaas, after Shyamchi Aai (1950) is only Marathi film to win the President's Medal.

After the success of "Shwaas", Indian media players like Shringar Films and Zee Telefilms are exhibiting a re-emerging interest in Marathi cinema. The growing popularity of Marathi television (notably Zee Marathi and ETV Marathi) has also helped to popularize older Marathi cinema and promote the genre.Zee Talkies, a 24 hour channel dedicated to Marathi movie has been introduced. In 2009, Marathi film Harishchandrachi Factory, depicting the struggle  of Dadasaheb Phalke in making Raja Harishchandra in 1913, India's first feature film, directed by theatre-veteran Paresh Mokashi was selected as India's official entry to Academy Award in the Best Foreign Language Film Category.Marathi film, after Shwaas,to receive this honour. Earlier they were less films produce and released now there are numbers of films release in a month
FilmslikeVentilator,Sairat,Kaasav:Turtle,Natarang and many other films has won the award and has reach to the top level today.

EEros,Viacom18 and Zee have already produced Marathi films and are looking forward to making many more in the near future. But,is it a good sign that corporate houses are entering the film industry or will it limit the current players from continuing to do the good work they been doing.Independent producers believe that big production houses will ensure that they create monopoly in the industry, and that might lead to losses for them. The basic reason for the success of Marathi cinema is because we are presenting quality subjects to the audience.Interestingly, the non-Maharashtrian audience is also taking interest in the regional industry."Natasamrat"has been successful because people who do not really follow Marathi films or non-Maharashtrian also watched the film in theatres. One of the important reasons why the Marathi film Industry has grown in the past few years is because filmmakers have correctly budgeted their projects. One should take the benefit of collaborating with the companies. This will not only help the film get a good platform, but also encourage the growth of the industry, produce films,it will get more screen space and shows because exhibitors also know this industry's films are doing well.It is a good thing for the industry,The Marathi industry has grown leaps and bounds over the past couple of years and the audiences are accepting new content, thus filmmakers and studios are ready to take the risk with fresh content. The line-up that has been announced has varied subjects directed by some of the best talents.

Most of the experts are of the opinion that the current digital era is one of the major transformations the world of cinema has gone through till date.

The history of filmmaking has always revolved around the developments that have taken place in camera technology. The first motion picture of the world was produced during the 1880s and the first commercial public screening took place in the 1890s. It didn’t take much time for motion pictures to enter India. The first Indian film was screened in 1913. Ever since the first movie was made,Indians have been on the forefront when it comes to adapting to technology of filmmaking.Indian movie industry has left its mark in world cinema and the 'new wave' of 1960s is considered to be an important stage in the history of movies.Today the country produces large number of movies in multiple languages.Changes in production took place .Production is the stage of filmmaking where the movie is actually shot. In recent times there has been a steady rise in use of digital cameras in Hollywood and all other movie industries around the world.the industry currently is relying mostly on digital equipment for producing films. More than 90% of  films are shot using digital cameras today. The cost of production is low for movies produced using digital cameras. This is one of the major reasons why filmmakers from around the world are preferring digital over film cameras for making movies. Today, we have aspiring film makers who use equipment as simple as a mobiles and handy-cam to make movies. The capability of digital technology has simply destroyed all conventional boundaries and has opened the door for a new world of great possibilities.

Thanks to advance film-editing software products, today it is possible to create the effects of an imaginary world and fuse it seamlessly to the footage's that are shot using digital camera. This is one of the biggest leap digital technology has brought in the process of making movies.Visual effects is a dedicated field in movie business which has been in great demand in recent times.

Screening Methods has changed over the years when asked about the biggest responsibility after completion of the movie, producers often point out at the job of handling and storing the canister (the circular box that has the film roll.) With digital technology, the storage method has changed and today it is much easier to handle and transport movies to theaters than in the past. Servers, hard disks and video tapes are being used to store movies and digital projectors are being used to screen them. There are other alternative platforms new-age film makers are looking at. Internet has made it possible for filmmakers to showcase their film to audience of a greater geographic range. Social media platforms and all other online promotional strategies can be adopted to ensure that the movie reaches out to more number of audience from around the world.

THE FIRST MARATHI TALKIE

‘AYODHECHA RAJA’

Ayodhyecha Raja literally "The King of Ayodhya",was the first Marathi talkie, released in 1932,directed by Shantaram Rajaram Vankudre (V.Shantaram).It is based on the mythological story of Raja Harishchndra of Ayodhya ,double-version of the films was also been made as Ayodhya Ka Raja in Hindi dailogue. The first ever full-length feature film "RAJA HARISHCHANDRA" (1913) was made on the same storyline.  It was the first talkie film of Prabhat Film Company and also for its directoe V.Shanataram .It turned out to be a great hit for the film indusrty and along with the entry of Durga khote from the upper classes to enter the cinema and paved way for other women to enter the cinema.

Indian movies first began to speak in 1931 when the Imperial Movie tone’s Alam Ara was released at the Majestic cinema on March 14, 1931, thus not only catapulting the company’s owner and the film’s director Ardeshir Irani into the pages of history but converting the Indian cinema into a veritable Tower of Babel by opening up the possibility of so many fractured regional cinematographies. It was soon after this that the scramble to make films in one’s own regional language began and the universality of the silent film was lost. The fact the Alam Ara became the first Indian talkie was a mere quirk of fate for the much more powerful Madan empire was very much in the race to make the first talkie and given its extensive international contacts and business risk of making a talkie had he not been talked into it by his general manager R.G. Torney, who had just bagged an agency to market the Audio Camex Recording Machinery. Irani, of course, went ahead and installed the Tannar equipment to make Alam Ara.

However, it was Torney and his Audio Camex Recording Machinery that the Prabhat partners turned to when they decided to embark on their first feature film a scant six months later in order to be able to work in silence (the prime requisite for a sound film at least in those days when there were no dubbing facilities), the fledgling Prabhat Film Company shifted its base from its centre-of-the-city location at Managalwar Peth to the Tarabai Park, then  on the outskirts of Kolhapur. Titled Ayodhyecha Raja in Marathi and Ayodhyaka Raja in Hindi, it was decided to make the film in two language versions. This decision was crucial to not only Prabhat but the entire Marathi film industry since it set the pattern for much of the filmmaking on the western coast in the 1930s. These dual versions not only helped filmmakers reach a wider audience but made the limited-audience Marathi film a economically viable entity when its business was balanced with that of the Hindi version. Coincidentally the story chosen for the first Marathi talkie was that of the ever-truthful King Harishchandra who prefers to face all manner of tribulations merely to fulfill a promise the 114 same as that of Dadasaheb Phalke’s Raja Harishchandra. It was natural that Prabhat’s star director V. Shantaram was selected to direct the venture which was to be photographed by K. Dhaiber with the technically-minded Vishnupantr Damle as the sound recordist. The fourth
partner S. Fatehlal was the obvious choice for art direction. Both the versions of the film were shot over a period of 19 days during which there were enough mishap and merry mix-ups to fill a book. However, none could match the near tragic comedy that took place on the day after the shooting. Soon after the film had been processed Shantaram sat down to edit it and to his horror discovered that it was totally out of sync. Both Shantaram, the director, and Damle, the technician, spent a sleeples night before Damle figured out that it was only a loose switch which had thrown a spanner in their works. The fault was corrected and Ayodhyecha Raja was ready for the world at large its Hindi version was shown as widely as Burma, Java and Sumatra.

For many years it was believed that the first film to be made in the Marathi language was Prabhat Film Company’s Ayodhyecha Raja (1932). Evidence to the contrary was unearthed only recently in 1989 to be precise, while preparing a detailed year-wise Marathi filmography for the Chitra-Utsav organised by the Jagatik Marathi Parishad. Now the first Marathi film is believed to be Master and Company’s Sant Tukaram, written by Babajirao Rane of the Rajapurkar Natak Mandalim and directed by K. B. Athawale on the advice of none other than Dadasaheb Phalke. The film was actually a sound synchronised version of a silent film based on one of the more popular plays in the theatre company’s repertoire and was filmed on outdoor locations in Pune. At first it was thought that the film was nothing more than the filmed version of the stage play but still photographs from the film reveal that it was also filmed outdoors,Thanks to the archival foresight shown by the Prabhat partners a complete print of Ayodhyecha Raja is preserved at the National Film Archive of India, Pune.

Both films opened in Bombay (Mumbai) on the same day (February 7, 1932) Sant Tukaram at the Hindmata and Ayodhecha Raja at the Majestic. But while the latter ran for a phenomenal of14 weeks, Sant Tukaram sank without a trace after a couple of weeks. The fact that Ayodhyecha Raja was a bilingual (in fact, the first Indian bilingual, made in Hindi and Marathi) and starred noted artistes (Govindrao Tembe, who also scored the music, Durga Khote and Baburao Pendharkar) contributed to its fame and durability at the box office. In later years, the two Sant Tukarams must have been confused and Ayodhyecha Raja being the better-known film, the claim that it was the first Marathi feature film have gained currency while the Prabhat Film Company not only survived to make more films but actually dominated the 1930s.

The media space has increases over the years and thus the news market. The growth has been dynamic both in terms of the quality and quantity in all the media sectors. The first TV broadcast in India was in September 1959 in Delhi. It was an experimental telecast with a small transmitter and a makeshift studio. Programs were telecast twice a week just for an hour a day .The regular daily transmission started in 1965 as a part of All India Radio. In India, the broadcast of free-to-air television is governed through state-owned Prasar Baharti Corporation, with the Doordarshan group of channels being the only broadcater. As such, cable television is the primary source of TV programming in India. Doordarshan channel being the only broadcaster and then the emergence of private channels started since 1995 were channels like Star news, NDTV 24*7 and other channels come to existence.Star news was the first-ever independent satellite news channel to hit the small screen.Hence was started the Television News Industry in India and like any other industry, there’s competition in this industry too. Were the Monopoly types of market changes to Oligopoly now there were more than one news channels. The viewer today does not have to wait for ‘that half hour of news’ sandwiched between the soaps of an entertainment channel. Instead, they could just switch to an NDTV 24x7 or a Star News for some fresh, up-to-date news about the happenings around the world. Slowly regional news channels came to existence like Telugu news channels, Assamese, Kannada, English, Bengali, Marathi, Malayalam, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, etc.
